To avoid distracting the viewers' gaze, it is important to place the subject in front of a neutral or fixed background. This focuses the attention of the viewer on the speaking subject who, in the absence of other things to look at, will not easily shift the gaze. It is necessary to try to blur the background, especially if it is not a single-color backdrop, so the viewer's attention will remain on the interviewee.
If you do not have a set of lights available to illuminate the environment and the interviewed subject, it will be necessary to pay close attention to how to exploit the ambient light or that of the location to the advantage of the room and ensure that it remains the same until the end of our resumed.
Good minimal photography requires several light sources:
• cut / key light: constitutes the main source of illumination of the subject and generates an intense shadow. It is projected directly towards the interviewee (a directional light) illuminating only a part of the frame.
• diffused light (filling): it is the general lighting of the frame. It does not generate very defined shadows and is used to contrast the effect of the cutting light, to prevent the latter from overshadowing a part of the subject.
• submodulating light: it is positioned behind the subject to generate a line of light that frames the subject and detaches it from the background. This type of lighting is essential when the background is uniform and single-colored.
So let's be careful to choose the location, the place in which to carry out the interview, choosing an environment that is functional to the type of video content to be created, avoiding spaces that are too noisy (away from sources of sudden noises and sources of constant noises) .
To summarize: when deciding the location of an interview, you need to pay attention to:
• audio, avoiding particularly noisy places;
• background, avoiding distracting elements behind the interviewee's back;
• brightness of the environment;
