A camera movements is when you move the camera. Camera movements are very common: They can have a descriptive function, when following a subject or visiting a place, or they can play a dramatic role by creating a spatial relationship between subjects or between an object and a subject, or by emphasising on certain objects or subject’s expressions.
They can also give access to a subject’s inner feelings, for example when the camera zooms in on a subject’s eyes in order to step into their memories, dreams, or move away as the camera zooms out. Camera movements can be useful at the beginning or at the end of a film, for example by drawing closer to where the plot is to take place, or by moving away from it at the end of the film. They also help reframe the image when a subject goes off camera or moves about.
