Today, I’ll explain what white balance and colour temperature are. These notions are important in video to have true-to-nature rendering. The first thing you have to know is that every source emits a light with a distinct tone. Depending whether I light a white sheet of paper with a bulb or with midday sunlight, the rendering will be different. The sheet will appear pinkish when lit by a bulb and bluish when sunlit. When the light has a reddish tone like that produced by a bulb, a sunset or a candle, we speak of warm light. Wehen the light is rather white or blue, as in daytime, we speak of cold light.
